Beginning of ONYX.

Founded in 2007, ONYX began as TJE Shutters, operating from a single office in a small city just outside Los Angeles. The name, drawn from the initials of the family’s three children, was a quiet nod to its origins as a family enterprise. In its early years, the company operated as a small retail store, serving local homeowners with a focus on craftsmanship, service and enduring quality.

As demand grew, the business transitioned from retail to wholesale, building a wider distribution network and expanding its capabilities. To reflect this broader scope, the name was changed to ONYX, signaling a brand positioned for a larger stage and a more versatile market presence.

Today, ONYX is among the largest distributors in Southern California, with established operations in Los Angeles and Orange County and a reach that now extends across California into key markets nationwide. In recent years, the company has also launched its own production of locally made shutters, giving it greater control over quality and lead times while reinforcing its commitment to craftsmanship. Despite its expansion, ONYX remains anchored in the principles that shaped its earliest years: family ownership, close-knit operations, and a focus on building relationships as carefully as it builds its products; a reminder that enduring presence is built on precision, integrity and an unwavering standard of craft.
